From The Chairman’s Desk

The long awaited CMA Chute Design course will be held 9-11 September, with assignment hand in and examination set for 11 October. Much interest has been shown for this course and numbers will be limited, so get your registration form in without delay.

The next Design Diploma course is scheduled for 14-21 October and if there is a demand, a Conveyor Certificate course can be held in September or October. The training venue for all three of these CMA training courses is Oaklands Inn in Randburg.

Full details, registration forms and the costs of these and other CMA training courses can be found on our website www.cmasa.co.za.

A very successful Joint Forum meeting was held recently at Brelko premises. Attendees seem to prefer the format of an afternoon session of four papers rather than shorter sessions, and holding the event at different venues is an opportunity to visit member companies they may not usually visit.

Members wishing to volunteer their training facility to host the Joint Forum meetings are welcome to contact the Secretariat. The number of attendees varies between 40 and 60. Thanks are extended to Brelko, Flexco and Dunlop for hosting the last four Joint Forum meetings.

Topics presented at the May meeting were:
• Start-up technologies for high inertia equipment: by Grant Robinson, presented by Pierre van Rooyen (Voith)
• Understanding mechanical belt fasteners: presented by Bryan Sargent (Flexco)
• Stringer selection: Graham Shortt (Materials Handling Consultant)
• Design philosophy of torque limiting high speed backstops: Willem Sullivan (Altra Motion) Hope to see you all at the next Joint Forum meeting.

Contact the Secretariat if you have a topic you would like to share, or wish to host the next
meeting.
