Although Kitwe is essentially a small town, the exhibition was well-attended, situated as it is in the hub of Zambia’s mining sector. Quite a few visitors flew in from the neighbouring states. We noticed many Zimbabweans coming past our stand as well as visitors from other neighbouring states such as Angola and Mozambique.

Of course, there were also many of “Bulk Handling Today” and its sister publication “SA Mechanical Engineer’s” South African readers and advertisers such as Acrow, CMCO Material Handling, Demag, John Thompson, Komatsu, Konecranes, Metso, Scaw and the Crosby group.

On the second day, the exhibition got the nod from the Zambian government with a presidential tour of the stands. Regular exhibitors as well as the newbies were both pleased with the number and quality of the visitors who showed a lot of interest in their products and services.

Time will tell, but they are hoping that leads will become firm business opportunities in the months ahead.

Although the toilets were not good and it took forever to be served lunch at the showgrounds, this was offset by a fantastic stay at a nearby lodge where the staff was friendly and the curries memorable.
