New to HPE Africa’s range of Hyundai crawler excavators, is the recently launched Hyundai R210 Smart Plus series, with advanced design features over the previous 210 Smart machines. Explains Ross Collard, Managing Director, HPE Africa, “Noteworthy features of the R210 Smart Plus series compromise fuel efficiency, high productivity, safe and smooth operation and easy control.

“With the addition of the new Eco mode, users now have a wider choice of operating modes to suit specific tasks and to further improve fuel efficiency. Other features that contribute to lower fuel consumption include the breaker mode that automatically sets the pump flow to an optimal level and a fuel saving kit for accurate monitoring. The auto deceleration system prevents fuel losses by reducing engine rpm during no-load conditions. The electro-hydraulic control system ensures precise flow at various workloads for optimum productivity and the open centre design of the Main Control Valve (MCV) provides fast response and maximum efficiency.

“Hyundai’s advanced computer-aided power optimisation CAPO technology and hydraulic flow summation contribute to faster cycle times, for greater output and improved performance. The arm regeneration system, which has been designed for smooth operation and to prevent cavitation, also improve fuel efficiency and performance. This machine boasts excellent bucket digging force (bucket 15 500kgf / SAE kN 133.4) and arm crowd force (12 000kgf / SAE kN 112.8.) R210 Smart Plus excavators, with a dual travel option, offer a high traction force (21 100kgf) and easy manoeuvrability.”

The water cooled, 4-cycle, 6-cylinder in line, direct injection turbocharged engine is manufactured for optimum performance in challenging conditions, including hot, humid and dusty environments.

For increased machine durability, this series has a reinforced front structure, with specialised steel plates, a strengthened undercarriage, as well as a forged ring body. In addition, the X frame provides excellent resistance to torsional bending, extending service life of the structure. Additional reinforcement of the bucket link supports enable greater bucket dig and arm crowd forces and enhanced reinforcement of the idler frame ensuring dependable operation in tough operating conditions.

These machines, with a large capacity fluid tank, have been designed for easy access to components for simplified maintenance procedures. Useful components include an air pre-cleaner that removes dirt and debris from the air before it enters the air filter and dust, waterproof electrical connectors and an anti-restart function that protects the starter from damage during engine operation. A counterbalance valve works as a hydrostatic brake and prevents accidental rolldown of the machine in steel gradients and a boom and arm holding system stops attachments from drifting against gravity due to prolonged overhanging. These machines are also fitted with an auto engine overheat and warm up function, a battery disconnect switch, a lower belly guard and a tank safety cover.

For improved safety and greater comfort on site, these machines have user-friendly functionality, a larger cab with 360 degree visibility, adjustable seats and additional lamps and mirrors. A user-friendly instrument panel makes it easy to control critical systems, like hydraulic oil and coolant temperature, fuel levels, self-diagnostic checks and maintenance management.
