The recently-launched X-Series crane from Konecranes delivers an enhanced operational usability through its stepless control and Smart features. It also offers a safer and more accurate lifting experience, while the new ergonomically designed Canman radio, with an integrated display, gives the operator free movement and helpful information at their fingertips.
“We embrace the Industry 4.0 philosophy so that new equipment is built for the future and not the past. Our X-Series crane meets that criteria extremely well. Customers will have the option to initially purchase the crane and then easily upgrade to additional Smart Features, enabling a seamless incorporation of functionalities. It is designed for change and adaptation as needs evolve,”’ says sales manager for Konecranes and Demag South Africa, Ian Grobler.
Change is a given
No factory, plant or site that relies on its crane performance remains static, requirements will often change. “We see our role, as a leading provider of cranes and associated equipment, to ensure that we are at the forefront of supplying crane technology that meets these changes,” Ian adds.
“The X-Series is compact, reliable and offers greater safety through its highly accurate lifting mechanisms. It redefines industrial lifting with its lean, state of the art electrical architecture that coupled with its Smart connected components, streamlines the crane software setup and makes it possible to upgrade the crane with new features ‘over the air’ – a first in the standard crane industry – without hardware changes at a later stage,” Ian says proudly.
Crane usage
Equipped with Truconnect Remote Monitoring, the Konecranes X-series provides vital insights into crane usage and operation. This data, combined with maintenance information, enables customers to make informed decisions regarding maintenance schedules, safety and productivity enhancements.
With next generation material handling technologies in mind, it’s more compact and efficient motor and synthetic rope delivers efficiency improvements, the thrust rocker reduces steel consumption, and an optimised belt drive reduces wear, minimising the overall environmental impact. The synthetic rope and guide rollers enhance performance and extend equipment lifespan while also reducing maintenance needs. Additionally, the implementation of inverter lifting technology ensures precise motor speed control which minimises energy waste.
Nothing without a great hoist
Performing alongside the X-Series Crane is the S-Series low headroom hoist. This compact hoist gives superior approach dimensions and a smooth stepless lifting with a load dependent lifting motor for a better operational experience and with shorter cycle times.
The S-Series low headroom hoist is strong, lightweight, durable and its clean synthetic rope improves the lifting operation by making it safer and easier to handle due to non-fraying and non-production of sharp barbs like steel wire rope.
Inexperienced operators
Ian concludes, “The hoist also features integrated Smart features that enhance safety while increasing productivity due to a shorter load cycle time which is particularly useful for inexperienced crane operators. A safety light on the trolley provides a visual signal of crane movement in the workspace to nearby personnel”.
