Component Rebuild Centre Upgrade

Barloworld Equipment has invested over R34 million in cutting-edge technology to boost efficiency at its Barloworld Rebuild Centre (BRC), one of only a handful of certified Component Rebuild Centres in Caterpillar’s global network.

This investment includes the installation of robotic thermal arc spraying and CNC machining, which enables Barloworld Equipment to efficiently salvage and refurbish critical components like cylinder blocks, final drives, spindles, wheels, and hydraulic components.

Robotic thermal arc spraying is especially beneficial for applications where there is friction, such as in bearings or gears. Thermal spray coating provides a hard and durable surface that can withstand high levels of wear and tear.

Latest standards

“This is the cost-effective way of keeping machinery operational, extending its life and reducing repair costs,” says Mbali Tshitenge, Executive: Aftermarket at Barloworld Equipment SA.

“The refurbishment of the BRC translates directly into faster turnaround times and a wider range of available remanufactured components for our customers,” she adds. Furnished with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and test stations, this ensures rebuilt components meet the latest Caterpillar specifications and quality standards.

Entire range

With over R1 billion in new parts and exchange components centrally located in the BRC warehouse, the business ensures immediate availability for the entire range of CAT models and equipment. This guarantees that rebuild components are delivered timeously, reducing disruptions to operations for customers.

“The BRC is a hub of technical expertise and cutting-edge technology. Our highly skilled turning and machining technicians, alongside advanced CNC and robotic programming professionals, utilise specialised equipment to go beyond simple fixes,” Mbali concludes.
