From the Chairman’s Desk

The Working Groups for belting and idlers have pulled out all the stops this year.

The Belting Working Group is busy with many tasks, including flammability testing, finger splicing, straight warp construction conveyor belting, energy saving, to mention but a few.

The work is assigned to Task Teams within the Working Group which helps to expedite actions and spread the load so as not to rely solely on a few overworked souls.

Next stage

The Idler Working Group has been busy with the review of the Idler Standards SANS 1313-1, SANS 1313-2 and SANS 1313-3.  This involves many meetings and emails to iron things out, but at last SANS 1313-1 and SANS 1313-3 have been submitted to SABS for processing.  Voting on the Committee Draft for SANS 1313-1 closed this month, so next stage is a Draft South African Standard.  Well done to all involved.

A Design Diploma course was held in October and exam papers are currently being marked before being sent to the Moderator.  Candidates are on tenterhooks!
