From the Chairman’s Desk

On the count-down to the end of year shutdown, it seems appropriate to reflect on the many CMA activities that have taken place during the year.

Working Groups have been very active with the Belting Working Group forming a number of Task Teams to spread the workload of this very busy Working Group.  Task Teams are dealing with the writing of a new national standard for Straight Warp construction belting, the finger splicing of textile-reinforced rubber-covered belting.  Other tasks include the revision of all belting standards and the restoration of Annex A Purchasing Guidelines to SANS 1173 and SANS 1366.

The Idler Working Group has similarly been very active in (at last) the correction of errors in SANS 1313 that was published in 2012, together with a review of the three parts to this standard.

Training

Courses and three Conveyor Certificate on-site courses were held during the year.  The Chute Seminar was postponed due to insufficient numbers registering, making it unviable for the software company to provide the temporary licences.

Joint Forum meetings have been held, where attendance is free to industry, whether a member of SAIMH or staff of a CMA member company.

Successful event

Five Members’ meetings and the Annual Golf Day were all held at Bryanston Country Club.

Beltcon 22 was held in August and proved to be a most successful event.  The CMA is one of the underwriters to the IMHC and is a proud supporter of the Beltcon conferences.

Wishing you all a peaceful festive season and safe travels.

Jay Pillay, Chairman
