Chairman’s Desk

The CMA Beltsman Certificate Course is only available for a minimum of 10 candidates and is conducted on-site. It is designed to totally familiarise candidates with procedures applicable to looking after the belting on the conveyor. No conveyor splicing is covered with the exception of mentioning the methods used to join different belts, and no design is covered. A lot of effort is spent on tracking and training of the belt and prevention of spillage.

It is intended for beltsmen, artisans and other operating staff where conveyors are used.

What you’ll learn

This course is a one-day course with a written examination to assess the knowledge gained by the candidate. The overview includes operational awareness and procedures, and theory of tracking and training of belts. Topics discussed include types of conveyors and components and maintenance, nature and properties of bulk materials, material characteristics, angles of repose and surcharge, and conveyor capacity.

Lecturing continues with adverse effects, rolling, storage and installation of belting, carcass types, splicing, joints and pulleys, pulley lagging, life expectancy and maintenance, belt training and take-up configurations. The troughing strand, off-centre loading, belt cleaning and skirts, drive motors and ramping, fluid coupling, and many other day to day operating and maintenance factors.

Each candidate receives a full set of notes.

Dates and costs for onsite training are negotiatble and customised and should be negotiated with the CMA to discuss requirements. A maximum of 20 candidates can be accommodated per course.
